Medical Examination for Expatriate Employees
This service enables employers to complete the required medical examination for expatriate employees as part of the process to obtain a work permit in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The examination must be carried out at authorized medical centres outside the Kingdom, and an additional medical test is required after the employee enters Bahrain through the authorized medical centers within the Kingdom.
Service Conditions
- Expatriate employees who arrive to the Kingdom of Bahrain and wish to take up an employment, require obtaining a work permit to become legitimate workers in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
- Medical examination is not required for the dependent visa.
General Rules for the Pre-employment Medical Examination of Expatriate Employees and Authorized Medical Centres Outside the Kingdom of Bahrain through Wafid's Platform
- Expatriate employees shall be examined against several diseases, and a report will be issued, that clearly indicates whether they are fit or unfit for duty.
- One of the main requirements for obtaining a work permit is the medical examination. The medical must be performed at the country of origin from an approved Wafid medical centre (an association created to provide medical examinations) and even upon arrival to the Kingdom of Bahrain after obtaining the permit, please check the list of Medical centres Approved in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
- Expatriate employees whose countries are not included in Wafid's list, they will be able to conduct their health screening at any hospital or medical centre of their choice back home and by attaching the Non Wafid Medical Check Up Form while applying for a New Work Permit application.
Mandatory Medical Examination for Expatriate Employees After Entering the Kingdom of Bahrain
- During the submission of new work permit, the employer should select three preferred medical centres.
- Once the new work permit is issued, expatriate employee must complete his/her biometric data collection as follows:
- For Expatriate Employees in the Kingdom of Bahrain: They must visit one of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) branches for biometric data collection by booking an online appointment via the Appointment Management System (AMS) to complete the issuance of the residency permit. Furthermore, medical examination appointment will be generated automatically by the Ministry of Health (MOH).
- For Expatriate Employees out of the Kingdom of Bahrain: They must visit the Labour Marker Regulatory Authority (LMRA) office at the Bahrain International Airport upon arrival for biometric data collection to complete the issuance of the residency permit. Furthermore, medical examination appointment will be generated automatically by the Ministry of Health (MOH).
- Important Note: Medical appointments will be generated automatically by the Ministry of Health (MOH) system based on the employer’s preference selected medical centres available slots, in case slots were not available, the Ministry of Health (MOH) system shall issue an appointment under a fourth available health centre. Employer will be notified via SMS and email about the medical appointment examination details and will have the option of updating the medical examination appointment via Kingdom of Bahrain’s National Portal - Medical Examination Appointments/ Medical Result Service. Additionally, this service allows the employer to view the medical test results.

Service Processes
- The Ministry of Health (MOH) mandate the employer to perform a periodical medical examination for expatriate employees holding occupations based on this list: specific list of occupations PDF (281 KB) upon the completion of two years, therefore:
- Prior to the periodic medical examination due date, the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) shall notify the employer to perform the periodical medical examination for their expatriate employees.
- If no medical result was received during the identified due date, employer will receive a notification confirming the expiration of the periodical medical examination, and will be direct to book an appointment through the Kingdom of Bahrain's National Portal - Periodic Medical Examination Services to complete the periodical medical examination.
