Application for a license/ Renewal to handle ionizing radiation sources
This service allows issuing and renewing licenses for facilities and activities that deal with ionizing radiation sources, after verifying that the facility meets the radiation safety requirements for workers, the public and the environment, and the requirements for the security of radioactive sources and nuclear materials
Service Conditions
- Active commercial register for the company in the Kingdom of Bahrain
Required Attachments
- Formal request letter
- Completed application form
- Copy of commercial registration (cr)
- The radiation safety plan, including the emergency preparedness and response plan
- Proof and details of special transport vehicle, for transporters and users of radioactive sources (sealed and open)
- Radiation workers’ c.vs and qualification certificates, and their previous radiation dose records
- Medical checkup results (blood count test) for the radiation workers.
- Proof of provision of tlds to the radiation workers
for license renewal
- Copy of the previous license
- Radiation workers’ dose records for the previous year
- Detailed annual report of the imports and exports of radiation sources (radioactive sources and x-ray machines); and their end-users if other than the licensee
for fixed radiation sources
- The detailed location of the facility
- A layout plan of the facility and immediate surroundings including building materials, alarm systems, shielding, engineering controls (mechanical interlocks, warning safety devices, remote handling tools, and any opening in the shielding materials such as conduits, ventilation ducts. And ac ducts)
- Assessment of maximum dose rates expected in all areas just outside the facility boundaries
- Details of the radioactive sources’ storage facility, where applicable, including location, adjacent rooms (on a plan or sketch), shielding calculations and provision for sources’ physical security
Legal Regulations
- Law (7) of year 2022 regarding the environment and all ministerial decisions and laws under it
- Ministerial Order No. (4) of 2021 regarding the fees of the licenses and services provided by the Supreme Council for Environment

Service Processes
- Fill out the application form and submit it with the needed documents by e-mail to the Environmental Licensing section
- Transfer the application to radiation protection to study the application, verify the completeness of the documents and requirements, and schedule an inspection visit
- Carry out the inspection to verify the completion of the requirements and make the necessary radiological measurements
- Prepare the license/renew license letter with the license terms and issue the service fee invoice
- Pay the fees
- Send the license/renew license letter and license terms to the applicant for signature and return
- Issuance of the approval/renewal of the approval
