Ownership or Resale of Vehicle Registration Numbers

Ownership of or resale of a vehicle registration number used or reserved to another person.

Service Conditions

  • Valid vehicle registration
  • No legal restrictions on the vehicle (seizure, loans)
  • Clear all traffic fines, contraventions, and accidents (if any)
  • Pay the applicable fees

Required Attachments

  • Valid ID card.
  • Vehicle ownership certificate.
  • Completed licensing division form signed by the owner; for companies: attach a copy of the commercial registration, the form stamped by the company, and a letter signed and stamped by the authorized signatory.
  • Submission of a letter of waiver for the registration number.
  • A copy of the marriage certificate to prove the relationship between spouses, and a birth certificate for transfers between ascendants and descendants as follows: Exemption from the fee applies in the case of transfer between: -Ascendants (first-degree relatives: father, mother, and those above such as grandparents from both sides)-Descendants (second-degree relatives: son, daughter, and their children such as grandson, granddaughter)-Spouses (husband and wife)

  • Ministerial Resolution No. (47) of 2017 regarding the sale of unique and semi-unique vehicle registration plate numbers for vehicles in the Kingdom of Bahrain
  • Ministerial Resolution No. (96) of 2017 regarding the adoption of a guide to procedures for selling unique and semi-unique vehicle registration plate numbers
  • Minister of Interior Decision No. (154) of 2015 issuing the executive regulations for the Traffic Law promulgated by Law No. (23) 2014, and its amendments

Service Processes

Electronic Service: (Ownership of a used or reserved number)
  • Through the eGovernment website
  • Select General Directorate of Traffic services
  • Enter authentication factors to ensure compliance with conditions.
  • Pay the fees and receive a certificate of number ownership via email.

In-person Service: (Reselling a plate number to another person)
  • Book an appointment through the Appointment System app (Mawaeid).
  • Go to the General Directorate of Traffic – Vehicle Licensing Division or one of the external service centers, ensuring the required documents are provided.
  • Verify that all required documents and conditions are met.
  • Pay the fees.
