Transfer vehicle ownership
Transfer of vehicle ownership from one owner to another
Required Attachments
- Identity Card
- Completed vehicle registration form signed by the vehicle owner (for companies or institutions, the form should be stamped, and a copy of the company’s Commercial Registration should be attached)
- Settlement of all outstanding violations and accidents between both parties
- Certificate of ownership
- Insurance certificate transferred in the name of the buyer
- Vehicle Registration Certificate
- Documents proving the identity or place of residence of the vehicle owner
- Documents accepting the status of the applicant for vehicle registration
- Documents proving ownership of the vehicle
- The required form must be filled out and signed by the vehicle owner (for companies or institutions, the form should be stamped, and a copy of the company’s Commercial Registration should be attached)
- Attach the ownership certificate
- The vehicle insurance must be in the name of the buyer
- The vehicle registration certificate must be valid
Procedures for transferring ownership of the vehicle:
- The seller and the buyer must be present to provide a signature in the presence of the relevant employee responsible for General Directorate of Traffic Form No. (1)
- The signature of the seller or buyer must be matched with what is recorded in the records of the General Directorate of Traffic, or Identity Card in the event they are not present. Alternatively, one of the delegated parties may be present, with the Directorate’s full right to reject the request in the event that the signature does not match, or the delegate is unsure
- It is not permitted to register a private passenger transport vehicle except in the case of a Bahraini citizen or legal person. It is not permissible to register more than one private passenger transport vehicle for a natural Bahraini citizen unless the Directorate deems otherwise (only by order of the Director General, their Deputy, or the Director of the Licensing Affairs Department)
- It is not permitted to register a vehicle in the name of an incompetent person except with the consent of the guardian, unless the vehicle has been transferred to the incompetent person by inheritance or obtained as a prize
- The ownership certificate of the previous vehicle owner will be withdrawn, and another certificate will be issued and handed over in the name of the new owner
