Vehicle Ownership Transfer
Transfer of vehicle ownership from owner to another individuals and institutions in accordance with applicable requirements.
Service Conditions
- The vehicle registration must be valid.
- Civil liability insurance under the buyer’s name must cover the validity period of the registration certificate.
- The vehicle must not have any restrictions (seizure, or installment payments).
- A clearance certificate issued by the financing authority is required if the vehicle is under installment.
- Necessary approvals must be obtained from the competent authorities if requesting ownership or classification change (e.g., Ministry of Transportation approval to change a taxi classification to private, or for transfer within same classification).
- A private transport vehicle for passengers may only be registered to a Bahraini individual or legal entity, and only one such vehicle may be registered per individual with seating not exceeding 26 passengers, unless otherwise approved by the authority.
- A vehicle cannot be registered under the name of a person lacking legal capacity without guardian approval, unless inherited or received as a prize.
- The seller and buyer must be present and sign Form No. (1) in front of the traffic officer, or have signatures matched with records or ID if one or both are absent. The authority may reject the request if signature does not match or representative is not trusted.
- All traffic fines, contraventions, and accident claims must be settled if any.
- Payment of the prescribed fees.
Required Attachments
- Valid ID for both seller and buyer.
- Vehicle ownership certificate.
- Completed licensing division form signed by the owner – For companies, a copy of the commercial registration must be attached, the form stamped by the company, and a letter signed and stamped by the authorized signatory.
