Provision of prosthetic devices for the elderly

Provide assistive devices such as wheelchairs, hearing devices/aids, commodes, and medical walkers/ crutches for eligible Bahraini senior citizens. A deciding committee is in charge of reviewing and either approving or denying requests for an assistive device.

Service Conditions

  • To be a Bahraini.
  • To be residing in the Kingdom of Bahrain
  • To be sixty years in age.
  • Applicant income must not exceed 1000 B.D. per month when submitting the application.

Other requirements:

  • Must pass 2 years since resubmitting a new application for the same device used for regular prosthetic devices, and pass 4 years for prosthetic devices equipped with special specifications, unless the committee deems otherwise.
  • The type of reports required according to the required device.

Required Attachments

  • Occupational therapy report in Arabic from a government hospital not less than two years.
  • The original copy of the medical report form a consultant of one of the government hospitals in Arabic.

Service Processes

  • The application is entered into the comprehensive electronic system of the Social Welfare Directorate (Department of Requests for Devices and Aids) by an administrative technician or the social researcher.
  • The social researcher sets the date of the visit on the e-system.
  • The social researcher conducts the field visit (may contact by phone in select special cases) and fills out comprehensive research form no. 2, enters all required data into the e-system, and provides her recommendation.
  • After gathering the required data and documents, the application is sent to the rapporteur of the committee in charge, who will present the findings to the committee for approval
  • The committee members will review each request for prosthetic and assistive devices and will attach their decisions form to the e-system.
  • If the application is approved, the applicant will be informed and will receive the device after it is noted should be entered into the financial system, and after which it should be handed in to the beneficiary.
  • Whether the request is approved or denied, the applicant or their representative shall be notified by phone.

  • In the event the case research is not completed, it should be reconducted to fill in any gaps.
