Street Care and Hygiene

The Kingdom of Bahrain takes care to keep streets, residential neighbourhoods, and business areas clean. Law No. (10) of 2019 regarding public cleanliness (PDF, 129KB, 7 pages, Arabic only) sets the framework for the law, which enacts fines for violations. The law aims to promote a safe and pollution-free environment in the face of urban and population growth. It stipulates procedures related to collecting, transporting, preserving, sorting, and storing waste, as well as procedures related to violations and more.

All regions of the Kingdom are kept clean through regular collections of waste from neighbourhood garbage containers. Streets, pavements, beaches and other coastal areas, central markets, public bathrooms, and shopping areas are cleaned regularly. Additionally, abandoned cars and boats are removed, and remnants of dust waves are swept from trees and advertising billboards.

The Ministry has launched the first automatic garbage bag dispenser in the Southern Governorate, sparing citizens the need to visit the Municipality during official working hours. The dispensers are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at commercial centres near residential neighbourhoods. Following this successful pilot phase, dispensers will soon be made available in the Kingdom’s other governorates.

Citizens can also receive garbage bags through the online reservation service.
