National Health Survey

About

The National Health Survey is an internationally adopted survey by the World Health Organization (WHO) and has been conducted in more than 70 countries worldwide. The survey is within the framework of providing reliable, realistic health data that is capable of being compared to priority health issues and utilized as an integrated part with the health information systems.

Responsible Entities
The survey will be conducted jointly by the Ministry of Health and the Information & eGovernment Authority.

Targeted Population
The survey will include Bahraini and Non-Bahraini households in all the Kingdom governates

Objectives

  • Strengthen the health information system and identify health concerns of the country.
  • Provide reliable information about the Population Health Status.
  • Contributes in setting future strategies related to health expenses and insurance, human resources of the health sector; in addition to program management, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Develop a complete population health database for Bahrain on a comparable basis with other countries

Health Survey Results

The survey results revealed that Kingdom of Bahrain is on "average", a healthy country, but significant health challenges persist, especially among elderly, those with lower levels of income and education, as well as health outcomes related to everyday choices such as smoking, diet, and exercise. Procedures and Checkups

Sample and Period
A sample of 4,000 households will be randomly selected and interviews will be held in a seven-month period starting from January 2018 until July 2018.

Required Data
Every selected household in Bahrain will be interviewed for a Household Questionnaire and an Individual Questionnaire (any family member whose above 18 years-of-age will be picked-out randomly from the household).

Bio-Markers and Physical Measurements
The survey will gather vital information on bio-markers and physical measurements for participants, it includes:

  • Diabetes
  • Cholesterol
  • Blood Pressure
  • Triglycerides
  • Eye Test
  • Obesity

Location of Interviews and Examinations
The interviews and the completion of the questionnaires will be taken in the selected households’ premises and another visit will be arranged in the morning for blood collection while the individual is fasting.
