In order to create a more competitive and efficient public sector, which is one of the objectives of the Economic Vision 2030, the Government has taken a two-pronged approach towards encouraging innovation.

  • First, it strives to create an environment that is conducive to innovation. This includes the establishment of accelerators and incubators to nurture innovative ideas, offering legal protection for innovative ideas, and encouraging foreign investment in innovative ideas.
  • Second, it recognises and promotes innovation through a series of awards and competitions. The long-standing eGovernment Excellence Award receives nominations from both the public and private sectors, as well as individuals and civil society. The Fikra competition empowers individuals, particularly public sector employees, to offer suggestions on how to improve public services.

Since 2020, Bahrain’s government, spearheaded by the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA), introduced numerous innovations to help the nation limit the spread of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).
