Ports and Maritime Affairs (PMA) helps regulate and develop the Kingdom of Bahrain’s ports and maritime sector.

PMA supervises the maritime operations of the Kingdom’s ports, supporting operators and ensuring they are prepared to safely navigate the routes leading to the Kingdom’s ports and their vicinities. It is also responsible for ensuring that ports and their associated facilities are in line with international standards by:

• Supervising commercial activities and the operation of ports and private berths
• Monitoring maritime operations within territorial waters to ensure the safe passage of ships at sea
• Registering all ships carrying the Kingdom of Bahrain’s flag and issuing related certificates
• Supervising the Bahrain Logistics Zone and monitoring its operations
• Monitoring port facilities to ensure that health, security, safety, and environmental standards are applied

Khalifa bin Salman Port

Established in 1962, Khalifa bin Salman Port is one of the key catalysts for economic development in the Kingdom of Bahrain, serving as an important trade link for the region. Its strategic location makes it one of the pre-eminent ports in the northern Arabian Gulf, well-positioned to receive cruise ships, and giant container and general cargo ships, in addition to helping connect cargo with direct road routes to Saudi Arabia and other GCC countries. The port also provides world-class sea freight, marine navigation, and logistics services.
