Kingdom of Bahrain is an open country and all nationalities are welcomed with no discrimination to enjoy a cosmopolitan life-style in Bahrain. New-born of a Bahraini father is granted nationality by law.

 

To ensure equality and justice for all, Bahrain has issued the Bahraini Nationality Law in 1963. The law includes the terms, conditions, and documents required to issue the passport for the first time that represents the Bahraini nationality and citizenship.

 

While the government of Bahrain is keen to protect the status quo and its cultural values or standard of living, the country has set pre-defined measures for foreign residents to apply for a permeant citizenship of Bahrain. Residents of the Kingdom of Bahrain and who wish to acquire Bahraini citizenship can view all requirements and pre-requisites. Non-Bahraini residents can apply for self-sponsorship in Bahrain online before applying for Bahraini citizenship.

 

Bahraini citizenship may be granted upon request to a foreigner who meets the requirements: legally resident in Bahrain for at least 25 consecutive years (15 for Arab nationals); good conduct; fluency in Arabic; having a registered real estate in Bahrain. A Bahraini woman marrying a foreign national may not lose her Bahraini nationality unless she acquires the nationality of her husband.

Required Documents

  • Original and copy of passport
  • Original and photocopy of Identity Cards
  • Original and copy of the authenticated birth certificate
  • 2 recent personal photos
  • In case the name of the applicant is written in the passport in a dual or triple form, an official certificate should be presented to prove the full name
  • Original and copy of the nationality certificate
  • Original and copy of the current Bahraini residence
  • Signed declaration requesting to obtain a Bahraini Citizenship

Requesting Bahraini Citizenship for the Wife of Bahraini Citizen

  • Original and copy of wife’s passport
  • Original and photocopy of husband and children's passports
  • Original and photocopy of wife, husband and children's identity cards
  • Original and copy of wife’s certified and notarized birth certificate
  • Original and photocopy of children's birth certificates
  • Original and copy of the marriage certificate (in case the marriage certificate was issued abroad, “affidavit conjugal” is required from the legal courts of Bahrain is to be presented with the original foreign marriage certificate)
  • 2 recent personal photos of the wife
  • 2 recent personal photos of the husband
  • In case the name of the wife is written in the passport in a dual or triple form, an official certificate should be presented to prove the wife’s full name
  • Original and copy of the nationality certificate of the wife
  • Original and copy of the current Bahraini residence license of the wife
  • A signed declaration of requesting to obtain Bahraini citizenship based on the marriage to a Bahraini citizen

  • Married to a Bahraini citizen
  •  Wife (applicant) should be present in a person with her husband at the time of application 
  • The wife should have a valid Bahraini Residence at the time of application
