Introduction

Government of Bahrain, through its national eGovernment program, has introduced and implemented various ICT initiatives that have resulted in superior service delivery to its citizens and residents, efficient computerization in government entities as well as optimal usage of advanced ICT infrastructure. The induction of ICT led initiatives in the public service delivery have spawned myriad opportunities for an efficient and dynamic work, opening the door to innovation and cost effective delivery of public services.

To ensure innovative and cost effective public service delivery, eGovernment program has a prudent mix of various service delivery channels that extend from traditional citizen touch points like counter and voice services, to online means like internet access through kiosks, and mobile apps.

Conscious efforts towards the optimization of the costs associated with the introduction, maintenance and upgrade of the channels are deliberated while laying special emphasis on advancing the features of these channels with the technological advancements and the needs and aspirations of the constituents. Towards this direction, eGovernment program has been concentrating on providing high quality personalized services to deliver seamless user experience with a focus on mobility.

Responsive Design on bahrain.bh

The new bahrain.bh portal has been designed using reliable platform coupled with a responsive user interface framework thereby enabling the content and services to be accessed easily by both desktop (Full View) and handheld (Responsive View) devices. With this initiative, eGovernment program was able to provide wider accessibility of eServices from virtually all platforms (desktop to mobile) to its users; ensure cross platform brand and content consistency; and significant cost savings.

This innovative approach has led to a saving of approximately 30% of the cost of implementing a dedicated mobile portal site. Furthermore saving the efforts, time and cost associated with the development, maintenance and upgrade of a dedicated mobile portal site, the enhanced new bahrain.bh portal complies with the latest international standards such as the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standards, and possess enriched features like improved site navigation, extension of features and services offered and use of unified search interface.
