With the current situation the whole world is facing and in line with directives of the Kingdom of Bahrain Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa to deploy modern technologies in finding a solution to prevent the spread of COVID-19 the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA), in cooperation with the National Taskforce for Combatting the Coronavirus (COVID-19) , worked endlessly to introduce the BeAware Bahrain app  to help support national efforts in battling the virus.

Why BeAware Bahrain App?

Ever since the outbreak of COVID 19, the Government of Bahrain, following the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines has been implementing a critical response plan that includes contact tracing, social distancing measurements, health care facility surge a control and tailored communications. The Government is leveraging various digital technologies to Government’s response plans particularly in contact tracing and tailored communications.   


BeAware Bahrain helps the public by:

  • Providing relevant and accurate COVID-19 information from authorized sources
  • Notifying individuals when they come in close contact with suspected COVID-19 cases 

BeAware Bahrain is an initiative by the Government of Bahrain to:

  • Provide relevant and accurate information to the public at regular intervals
  • Accelerate contact tracing and identification efforts of health authorities
  • Enable close vigilance of self-isolated / quarantined individuals and monitoring of their contacts
  • Facilitate the scheduling of COVID-19 tests
  • Support the COVID-19 response at the national and international levels

The Government of Bahrain is committed to safeguarding the privacy of data in line with the personal data protection law  and assures that the data collected through the app is strictly only used for the sole purpose of limiting the spread of the Coronavirus  COVID-19 contact tracing by health authorities and does not reveal the personal identity of the users to any third party . Data encryption is used to protect sensitive data.

What is BeAware Bahrain App?

The BeAware Bahrain Mobile App, utilizing cloud and location data, enables the Government to swiftly identify, traceback and warn people who have been in contact with someone who is showing symptoms of the COVID-19 virus.  
The application alerts individuals in the event of approaching an active case or a location an active case has visited. The application also tracks the movement of self-isolated cases for 14 days and publish health recommendations and highlight global COVID-19 developments to the user.  
In addition to the BeAware Bahrain Mobile App, the self-isolated individuals are also provided with Bluetooth enabled, water and tamper-proof smart bracelets to augment the sharing of real-time tracking information with health workers. Health workers are notified when self-isolated cases exit their pre-set area by 15 meters, in which case the team will respond by reminding individuals of the importance of following procedures to safeguard the well-being of citizens and residents. The application also notifies the users in self-isolation to schedule their compulsory exit swab tests 3 days before the end of their isolation period.

BeAware Bahrain App Features

BeAware Bahrain provides the following features:

  1. Registration: Install the app and enable the location data option to activate the app’s features.
  2. Contact Tracing: Alerts users to get tested once they have been in contact with a positive case.
  3. Coronavirus Test Results: View Coronavirus lab test results once released by the test center.
  4. Schedule Exit Swab Test: If the user is a home isolated case, it will help schedule an exit swab test. Exit swabs will be conducted via drive-through facilities located at the test center without the need for individuals to leave their cars.
  5. Announcements: Provides updates from the National Taskforce for Combatting the Coronavirus (COVID-19) .
  6. Decision Lists: Provides a list of all released decisions regarding the Coronavirus from Kingdom of Bahrain officials.
  7. General Guidelines: Provides protective instructions about the Coronavirus such as methods to prevent virus spread, self-isolation instructions, and disinfection methods.
  8. Official Statistics: Provides a summary of cases including total tests conducted, active cases, stable cases, critical cases, discharged cases, and deaths.
  9. Global Statistics: provides statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO) on confirmed cases, recoveries and deaths in total and for selected countries.
  10. National Coronavirus Hotline: Allows users to call the National Coronavirus Hotline 444 directly from the App to get advice or clarifications from dedicated agents.
