A Message from Mr. Mohammed Ali Al Qaed

CEO of eGovernment Authority of Bahrain

On behalf of the eGovernment Authority (eGA) of Bahrain, I would like to welcome you to the eGovernment Portal and certainly hope that the services and information provided through the portal are beneficial to you. We certainly value and appreciate everyone’s constructive feedback as this helps us improve our quality to be consistent with your expectations. I am pleased to share with you some of what the eGA has planned for the short and long term, as well as highlight its achievements since its creation in August of 2007.

What the eGA has accomplished so far has not been easy by any stretch of the imagination, and would not have come to fruition if it was not for the tireless efforts of my colleagues at the eGA and various Government entities, and the valuable feedback of the people of Bahrain. Finally, I cannot overlook the boundless support we received from our esteemed Government, especially H.E. Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister and President of the Supreme Council for Information and Communication Technology (SCICT), who was always there to help us overcome numerous challenges.

Let us now review the eGA’s major achievements so far.

The eGovernment National Portal (www.bahrain.bh) has thus far offering a large number of eServices to the public, covering various sectors such as Health, Education, Housing, Labor, Telecommunications, and many more. These eServices have been categorized in an easy-to-use manner with clear instruction on how to use each service. In addition, the Portal offers users the option of making ePayments by credit card or debit cards. The Portal was recently upgraded in partnership with global leaders in ICT infrastructure in order to accommodate the ever-growing number of visitors and avail its growing stable of services to its users quickly and securely. These efforts were rewarded by winning several local and regional awards, including the 2008 Arab GoldenChip Awards, in which the eGovernment National Portal (www.bahrain.bh) took home the award for Best eGovernment Application in the Arab world. This recognition demonstrated that we are indeed on the right path towards achieving international excellence in this field.

Also, one of the most important milestones for the eGA was the launch of the Enterprise Architecture Project, which will standardize and improve the ICT systems in all government entities and make them more cost effective. This particular initiative is the first of its kind in the region, and will lead to a substantial reduction in prolonged procedures and the time it takes to bring eServices to the public. In addition to these benefits, it is important to not overlook the tremendous environmental benefits gained from having a comprehensive eGovernment program as well. Compared to the traditional method, eGovernance significantly reduces the consumption of natural resources such as paper and decreases pollution levels produced by vehicles.

As for the eGA’s future plans, there are more than 200 eServices which will be offered through the eGovernment Portal by end of 2010. The eGA will also bring the other service delivery channels - National Call Center, Government Common Service Centers, and Mobile eServices – to the public to make eGovernment services accessible to everyone whenever and wherever they may be in every sense of the word. And, as we have done in the past when drafting and implementing our strategy, we promise to keep you closely involved because this project was created to serve you, and it is your opinions and suggestions that form the basis of its success.

In the end, all of these programs and initiatives directly contribute to achieving the eGovernment program’s vision, “ensuring the effective delivery of government services to citizens, residents, businesses and visitors”, in line with the overall Bahrain Vision 2030 and its basic principles of sustainability, competitiveness, and fairness. I promise that we will continue to do our utmost to play our role in this vision which will improve the quality of life for Bahrain’s residents in general, and citizens in particular, and take our beloved Kingdom from one success to the next.
